About this painting: My father has cancer.  One customer that I consider to be a friend has cancer.  Another friend thought she has cancer but recently got the great news that she is cancer free.  Cancer is just a word.  Describing cells.  But it is a dark dark mystery to most of us.  I think we hear the word cancer the way earlier cultures heard the word "reaper".

I made this painting sunny and warm because cancer is not death.  And there is no map to the land of cancer.  It is not a factory turning out identical products.  It is not a lab with controlled experiments.  Cancer is live, living organisms.  Organic, wild, rogue cells.  Unpredictable.  Unknowable.  A curious, scary, sneaky visitor.  Maybe even a gift if you are able to see it in those terms.  Cancer is a part of life.  I created this piece to make it a tiny bit less ominous and to put it in a natural context.
