About this painting:  I know these colors.  I know which ones get along and which ones always fight.  I know which ones are needy and which ones pair up with a friend and which ones like to be left alone.  I know which ones will pitch a fit in the check out line demanding candy and which ones are always helpful and polite.  I have lived and breathed these colors for so long that I have no idea what the world would be without them.

These are some of the colors from my palette.  I typically work with 6 - 8 shades or versions of each color. 

This piece is unique in all my work.  I cleaned my brush between EVERY little color swatch.  That is nuts.  Usually I move from color to color to color to color, enjoying how they mix and layer both wet and dry.  But this time, I wanted the colors pure.  So I cleaned the brush completed each time.  And I let everything dry for a day before repeating the process so each swatch has deep rich pigment.  I was surprised how much longer it took me the first time versus the second.  Which reflects the time I spent carefully choosing where to put each color and how each swatch should look.  The second time there were no decisions, just applying paint.

I love this piece.

Note:  Some of the mat board and paper paintings do have stray bits of paint in the margins outside the picture plain.  These will generally not show once you have the piece matted, but if you are one of those folks who like pristine unmarked white, you may want to stick with the canvas paintings.
